Cardboard Cupcake

10/4/2013

A one-of-a-kind cupcake & birthday dates that are one of a kind.

Since kinder my kids have been following the birthday tradition of carrying a giant cupcake that I made out of cardboard. On the side it says: "I'ts my birthday, have a cake". My daughter is already in her last year of High school and still takes it to celebrate being born on 9/6/96. We do it all again, next is my son (9/9/99). Then we wait a little for the "end of the beginning", as my other son says, when we celebrate his on 1/31.

This particular cupcake was made by cutting out 2 circles and surrounding one with a small strip to make the lid and the other one according to the size or depth needed. Similar to what I mentioned on the previous post.

I have also made some medium sized from cardboard tubes that are sold for cement molds at the hardware store, smaller ones from cardboard tubes that hold linoleum / carpet (discarded & free), and the smaller fun craft to recycle the leftovers from masking tape or duct tape rolls.

The cylinder is already done so it is easy to make a bunch of them.  This regular sized cupcake makes a nice trinket box for birthday parties, a great make-and-take activity, and an easy way to recycle cardboard tubes.
